Silicon Valley Europe: Mr. Menzel, you are known as someone who remains calm even in hectic situations – is that your nature or the result of hard work?

Tobias Menzel: I think it’s both. At my core, I’m a fairly relaxed person, but the composure I exhibit today is largely the result of years of proving myself in high-pressure projects. Every new challenge has shown me how important it is to keep a clear head – for my team, our customers, and myself. For me, composure isn’t a privilege; it’s an attitude that can be practiced.

Silicon Valley Europe: Three children at very different stages of life and a technology-driven company: How do you manage to balance work and family – or is that even possible?

Tobias Menzel: It’s never completely possible – but balance is achievable. I consciously plan my week to include time blocks where I’m unavailable and spend quality time with my children. At the same time, I rely on clear delegation: my leadership team takes decisions when I’m not around. This way, I can be there for lunch at home and consciously switch off in the evening to be present for my family.

Silicon Valley Europe: What was the moment when you knew: I want to be an entrepreneur – and specifically in media technology?

Tobias Menzel: That was about twelve years ago, when I was working as an engineer on a major AV project. The technical solution was brilliant, but the implementation failed due to processes and communication. That’s when it clicked for me: technology alone isn’t everything. I wanted to create companies that bring both together – and I immediately started building my first small team.

Silicon Valley Europe: They are considered loyal, direct and solution-oriented – qualities not found in every CEO. What does modern leadership mean to you?

Tobias Menzel: To me, modern leadership means giving trust while clearly communicating expectations. Loyalty emerges when you give your team the space to take responsibility and remain open to feedback. Only then can you stay agile and develop real solutions – not just technically, but also on a human level.

Silicon Valley Europe: Your company DVC stands for holistic media technology solutions. What makes a good solution for you – technology, mindset, or both?

Tobias Menzel: Definitely both. Technology without the right mindset often leads to rigid, inflexible systems that miss the user’s needs. Conversely, even the best mindset is ineffective if the technical implementation doesn’t work. Our strength lies in combining both: we start with the human perspective and then solve the technical challenge.

Silicon Valley Europe: “Anyone who only delivers technology has already lost,” one might almost quote you. What exactly do you mean by that?

Tobias Menzel: What I mean is: if a provider only installs equipment and then disappears, the foundation for long-term success is missing. We accompany our projects from requirements analysis through change management to support. Only this way can we ensure that the technology is actually used and creates added value – not just on day one, but for years to come.
